The Cost of Caregiving

80 episodes

Chen Xiaobao's school organized rock climbing, and his mother Ye Yufei carefully purchased a hundred yuan safety rope. However, his mother-in-law Wu Xiulan felt it was a waste and secretly replaced it with an old rope that was picked up and had torn cracks. On the day of rock climbing, the rope broke and Xiaobao fell, resulting in a fractured leg. On weekdays, Wu Xiulan frequently engages in stingy behavior. She sold the nutritious milk powder bought by Ye Yufei for Xiao Bao, and even fed him with pus and blood while suffering from breast cancer, causing him to vomit and have diarrhea. When buying milk for free, Ye Yufei and Chen Junhao picked up expired milk from the trash can. After drinking it, they suffered from food poisoning. Wu Xiulan is obsessed with picking up waste, with piles of garbage at her doorstep, ignoring multiple warnings from the property management and fire hazards. The fire broke out suddenly, and she was heartbroken for the waste that blocked the firefighters from extinguishing the fire. The firefighters also caused trouble when rescuing Xiao Bao, resulting in Xiao Bao falling from the building and being injured. The firefighters were unconscious. When Xiao Bao was receiving intravenous infusion, Wu Xiulan noticed that there was residual medication in the infusion bottle and administered oral intravenous medication to Xiao Bao. Xiao Bao's condition rapidly deteriorated, and although he was rescued, he needed to take a large amount of medication. Wu Xiulan was dissatisfied with the high cost of the medicine and wanted to switch to cheaper ones. Despite being stopped by Ye Yufei, she secretly tried. Xiao Bao's condition worsened again, and the newly awakened firefighter almost died from taking the wrong medicine. Ye Yufei's family was expelled from the hospital. Ye Yufei was furious and issued a final ultimatum to Chen Junhao: if Wu Xiulan was not driven away, they would divorce. Chen Junhao had no choice but to let Wu Xiulan go back to his hometown first. After returning home, Wu Xiulan did not reflect on her mistakes and instead believed that the hardships at home were caused by Ye Yufei and her husband's lack of gratitude. She went to great lengths to find a recipe, but due to the high cost of medicinal herbs, she used cheap ingredients such as radishes instead of precious herbs like ginseng to boil chicken soup and deliver it. Ye Yufei firmly refused to let Xiao Bao drink, and Chen Junhao, out of consideration for his mother's wishes, wanted Xiao Bao to try, which resulted in serious consequences.
